The Most Overused Samples in Hip-Hop [LinkUp]

Ever heard “Why You Treat Me So Bad”, “I Got 5 On It” and “Satisfy You” and wondered… who’s the next artist that’s going to use that beat? Well, first off, wonder no more, because it’s going to be me. *snickers*

But if there’s one thing we love about hip-hop is that it uses samples from classic records, aka “making something from nothing”. But as producing beats and live instrumentals become more and more accepted, sampling is still one art form that is makes hip-hop unique. However, there are times when these samples are overused. Audiotuts came up with 8 of the most over-used samples in Hip-Hop history.

I don’t think they wrote this article as to bash Hip-Hop, but more to educate you. I found this article interesting, but I think the list is lacking some details. However, like all lists, they care debatable. :)

Upgrading Your Skill Level in 24 Hours

Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, HA! I’m FAMOUS!

I wrote an article for Freelance Switch, one of my favorite blogs. It’s a “guideline” on how to upgrade your skill level using Parkinson’s Law in a “controlled situation”. The article is penned under my real name and they made it less wordy (something I’m always guilty of), but you can clearly tell that it’s my style of writing (you know, the “get real with yourself” style).

People are commenting, and it resonates with a lot of freelancers. They are also reviewing this article on other sites. I’m amazed with the response and feedback…

… and upset that my MAIN BUSINESS site is not UPDATED! EEK! Betta get to work!

So, today’s linkup as well as the make up for the Productive Monday, I present to you:

How To Upgrade Your Skill Level in 24 Hours

What Does BET and Indiana Jones Have In Common?

INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL Blogger Tony Muhammad put up a rather interesting post called “BET and the Subliminal Culture of White Supremacy”. It opens up with a review of how BET changed when Viacom brought it out. Then, it talks about a recent episode of 106 & Park and it’s promotion of the movie “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”.

He saw a lot of symbolism within the whole episode and decided to share his thoughts. So, for today’s link up, let’s explore this essay.

Remy Ma and "Black Injustice" Don’t Mix

newremymaSo, Remy Ma finally got a slice of reality. According to allhiphop.com, she was sentenced to 8 years in prison, the minimum sentence, a few hours ago. She tried to get marry to Papoose while in prison over the weekend, but failed because Papoose allegedly had handcuff keys and is now banned from the prison for six months. In a pervious post, I talked about the outcome of the verdict and “advice” Remy Ma just to take what she can.

One commenter, “Buttaluv” (who wasn’t brave enough to even leave a real e-mail address) used poor logic and used a weak argument about Rodney King, OJ Simpson, and TI as examples. Clearly a Remy Ma supporter (or fan, which is actually a LOWER level than supporter), I doubt she saw the point of the post, which was that her attorney is using the argument that she didn’t mean to use a gun and/or didn’t mean to fire the victim, just threaten her. Rev. Wright Vs. White Preachers - It’s Alright Because It’s All White [LinkUp]

Reverend Rod Parsley believes America was founded to destroy Islam. Reverend John Hagee has called the Catholic Church the “Great Whore.”Jerry Falwell said America had 9/11 coming because we tolerated gays, feminists and liberals. Reverend Jeremiah Wright said things similar to these preachers, but there’s a slight difference. It’s their skin color. All the preachers I spoke of, other than Wright, are white preachers. And all these preachers either support or is a spiritual guide to… Senator John McCain.

While this isn’t totally surprising, let’s face it. If a white man tells the truth, then we praise him. If a black man speaks the truth, we stone him. Geez.
